16th edition – International Scientific Conference Series
THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL ISSUES ON BUILT HERITAGE CONSERVATION
România, Cluj-Napoca

CONFERENCE INVITATION

The Transylvanian Historic Building Conservationists’ Society and the Transsylvania Nostra Foundation organises, between August 21 and 24, 2013, the 16th edition of the Conference Series on Theoretical and Practical Issues of Built Heritage Conservation – TUSNAD 2013. This internationally recognised scientific event will be held at Bistria (Bistria-Nasaud County, Romania) on the topic Contemporary Conveniences in Historic Buildings.

The Conference Series on Theoretical and Practical Issues of Built Heritage Conservation – TUSNAD was launched in 1992 in the town of Tusnad Bai as an International Training Course in Historic Building Protection, becoming in 1993 an International Conference. Although its first 10 editions were organised annually, in 2001 it became a biennial event, and after 11 editions at Tusnad Bai, the organisers decided to convey greater mobility to the conference series, as well as to shorten it. Therefore, after Baia Mare (2005), Sibiu (2007), Rimetea (2009), and Alba Iulia – Simleu Silvaniei (2011), in 2013 the conference will be held in Bistria. The proposed settlements host successful ongoing historic building conservation sites with complex problems that put at test the “Built heritage conservation industry” from Romania, requiring answers to a series of universal aspects on one hand, as well as to specific Transylvanian aspects on the other hand. Furthermore, August 24, 2013 is the 450th anniversary of the consecration of the Lutheran Church A.C. in Bistria, following the interventions of Petrus Italus de Lugano, who conceptualised the church’s present aspect.

In order to facilitate the dialogue between specialists from different countries, the conference brings into discussion the specific terminology of every topic in all of its three official languages (Romanian, English and Hungarian. TUSNAD 2013 only accepts unpublished papers. Submitted conference papers will be reviewed by the technical committee of the Conference. All accepted papers will be published in the electronic version (CD) of the conference proceeding. Selected lectures will be recommended for publishing in Transsylvania Nostra Journal accepted by Scopus for indexing.

The programme of the 16th edition of the Conference Series on Theoretical and Practical Issues of Built Heritage Conservation – TUSNAD 2013 includes lecture presentations centred on a general approach of the topic: contemporary conveniences in historic buildings, case studies, round-table discussions, panel exhibitions and field trip.
